In August 2018, the Alberta Energy Regulator's Science and Evaluation branch held the organization's first hackathon event. Over a two day period, six teams came together to develop solutions for regulatory problems to be presented to a panel of four vice presidents from a diverse set of backgrounds. The competition was judged on teamwork, presentation, relevance to the hackathon theme, and the most heavily weighted category: creativity. Working together, myself and a team of four others were able to use all of our individual strengths to prototype and present our solution that won first place out of six teams. Unfortunately I am not able to publicly share what ideas or projects were pursued during this hackathon.
If you would like to know more about this event, you can read the story I wrote for the regulator's brand journalism website Resource.
